Description
The entry-level boat of the SD line, with interiors by Patricia Urquiola and external lines by Zuccon International Project, is a 28.93-long boat that has a significant range and a top speed of nearly 20 knots THE ABSENCE OF REDUNDANT ELEMENTS IS CLEAR FROM THE FIRST GLIMPSE OF THIS PROJECT. It looks solid and compact, and the openings towards the exterior are carefully covered by windows. The windows in the bow and the side of the Sanlorenzo SD96 are the same shape as those of the rest of the range but feature glass that from the outside is a similar colour to the hull, thanks to the decision to use one-way film on the cabin windows on the lower deck. This boat expresses a concept of profound nautical culture that is a long way off what people imagine. The fascination and the purity of this design have an unequalled beauty and are surprisingly contemporary. Bernardo Zuccon, who together with his sister Martina designed the project for external lines and compartments, tells us: «The style stems from the search for timeless class, where symbols interact flowingly and functionally with the containment of volumes and with the idea that the key element when it comes to style is the hull. The SD96 is a yacht with a wealth of history and tradition that sets sail in a new sea, where stylistic features and functions have been redefined to help write a fascinating new page in the life of this shipyard». The SD96 is split over three decks, but thanks to the proportions that have been carefully researched and the great equilibrium between design and volumes that have been achieved, it is especially elegant and light, exactly like a two-deck yacht. This motoryacht hides a light and delicate soul, with large windows that let light in and allow it to bounce around pastel-coloured rooms with a dream-like quality, creating a clear contrast with the first external impression. It has been built to be defensive, private and with a strong appearance, like a boat that protects the people on board, while at the same time providing a place that is not oppressive when you are staying on it. With the SD96, Sanlorenzo hasn’t limited itself to just preserving existing design, but instead has responded to the needs of its clients and taken a new look at the typical layout as requirements in terms of volumes and functions have changed over time, and which needs more answers, more opportunities, starting from smaller sizes. «There are places that change and adapt to differing daily needs; it is as if the boat, closed and airtight in readiness to face the sea, once moored, can be opened up to allow the owner to optimise the quality of life on board», adds Bernardo Zuccon. The concept of flexibility and modularity, that permeates the SD96 project, dictates the rhythm of the interior areas designed by Patricia Urquiola. Bringing her own vision on board, the architect and designer interpret the interior of the SD96 focussing on convertibility, for a boat that can evolve and continually adapt to the needs of the people who live on it. A fluid space in which the distinctive style of the Spanish architect and designer emerges, with a combination of a minimalist approach with a mix of carefully-selected materials that reflect the sea. Patricia Urquiola states: «Our starting point for this collaboration with Sanlorenzo was doubtlessly the sea, a great source of inspiration for the whole development of the concept and therefore the interior of the yacht. The materials, shapes and colors evoke the marine world, creating a flowing and elegant space full of natural colors». In the equilibrium between rigour and irony, between an industrial and an artisan approach, Patricia Urquiola creates a dialogue between different styles and furnishings through her search for sensual textures and an attention to detail that makes the interiors of the SD96 warm and welcoming, with a sophisticated, elegant and contemporary feel, so that one can enjoy these rooms and claim back one’s time. A fundamental element in interior design is the decision to use furnishing produced by firms that reflect the excellence of international design and that have researched ad hocsolutions, adapting their own products in terms of technical characteristics, materials and in construction solutions to project requirements. With the SD96, Sanlorenzo has again shown its capacity to meet the requirements of a market that is continually evolving, through profound research and innovation, without ever betraying its image – which has always set it apart because of its timeless elegance and a simplicity in its light and streamlined lines, an expression of a refined, unaggressive luxury that shows itself in the choice of materials and attention to the very smallest details. The world of yachts is fascinating and romantic, but also complex, because it is linked to the idea of an owner who has taken the choice to spend a long time living at sea, travelling calmly, without time restrictions. This kind of boat offers a large range to reach even the most distant destinations and is designed for people who both know and love the sea profoundly. The naval architecture of the SD96 has its roots in Philippe Briand’s design, integrated with the experience and tradition of Sanlorenzo’s Engineering department. The waterlines were checked at Marin’s testing tank in Holland. The hull design of the SD96 means you can use a wide range of speed: from 10 knots, maximising fuel consumption figures, to a cruising speed of 15 knots and up to the top speed of 20 knots. This level of performance comes from the hull design, which has a very streamlined shape and a vertical bow; that hasn’t affected the interior volumes, thanks to the shape of the sides, which are well integrated with the design of the external lines.
